Samsung annuncia l’Exynos 5 Octa: 8 Core CorteX A15 e sbaraglia la concorrenza
Se in questi giorni abbiamo visto annunci importanti a livello di processori, sembra che Samsung abbia sbaragliato la concorrenza. Ovviamente non possiamo ancora sapere le prestazioni del nuovo processore Coreano, ma già il nome promette qualcosa di unico. Si chiama Exynos 5 Octa e in pratica è un processore formato da ben 8 core fisici che lavorano in sincronia. Tutti i Core sono realizzati con processo produttivo a 28nm ma non sono tutti uguali.
Il Quad Core principale è una potentissima unità da 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 che viene affiancata da un Quad Core da 1.2GHz Cortex-A7. Come detto tutti e 8 i processori sono realizzati con processo produttivo a 28nm e sono quindi di ultimissima generazione e in grado di offrire una potenza davvero elevata. Qualcomm ha annunciato lo Snapdragon 800 che riesce a spingersi fino a 2.3GHz di clock ma i 4 core A7 della soluzione Exynos 5 Octa potrebbero portare benefici importanti in termini di consumo energetico. Non resta che attendere i primi benchmark e sperare che Galaxy S4 possa beneficiare di questa nuovissima architettura hardware.
Samsung ha mostrato durante la presentazione alcune sequenze di gaming 3D affermando che le prestazioni sono doppie rispetto agli altri competitor concorrenti. Inoltre il produttore rilancia affermando che l’architettura ARM big.LITTLE che caratterizza questo SoC permetterà un risparmio energetico fino 70% rispetto all’Exynos 5 dual core montato sul Nexus 10.
Galaxy Note 2 vicino ai 10 milioni di unità vendute in 5 mesi a livello globale!
Mentre in Corea si festeggia il milione di unità vendute, il Galaxy Note 2 a livello globale si appresta a vedere ben 10 milioni di pezzi in soli 5 mesi dalla commercializzazione. Un record veramente difficile da battere che si è concretizzato con i primi 5 milioni di unità nei soli primi due mesi e che adesso raddoppia con ben 10 milioni di pezzi spediti (ancora non è un dato ufficiale e dunque non possiamo parlare di pezzi venduti). Il Phone Tablet di Samsung non solo ha saputo migliorare il modello precedente che ha aperto di fatto un nuovo segmento, ma è riuscito a convincere ancora meglio gli acquirenti con un hardware davvero potente, un software da subito ben ottimizzato e con novità importanti arrivate nelle scorse settimane. Sebbene in Italia si attenda ancora Android 4.1.2, certamente non possiamo al momento lamentarci delle prestazioni del telefono e della modalità multitasking offerta dal produttore. Attendiamo adesso l’annuncio ufficiale da parte di Samsung che dovrebbe confermare i 10 milioni di Note 2 venduti in 5 mesi entro pochi giorni.
Samsung anticipa immagine della sua TV dal design e forma ‘senza precedenti’
Manca poco più di una settimana all’inizio del CES 2013, l’evento forse più atteso di tutti che apre il nuovo anno con molte delle novità che affolleranno l’intero panorama tecnologico. Samsung sarà come di consueto tra le protagoniste, non soltanto grazie al segmento mobile, le sue TV continuano ad essere tra le più apprezzate e l’innovazione non si ferma mai nei laboratori coreani.
Pochi giorni fa abbiamo mostrato un primo video teaser che preannunciava il debutto di una nuova TV Samsung proprio durante la kermesse di Las Vegas, non certo una ‘semplice’ OLED o UHDTV viste le premesse. Tramite le pagine del blog samsungtomorrow arriva così questa immagine in apertura accompagnata da misteriose dichiarazioni:
Una vera innovazione nel design delle TV sta arrivando, con una forma senza precedenti della TV e design senza tempo.
Il mistero s’infittisce, difficile migliorare o addirittura stravolgere il design delle attuali Smart TV più all’avanguardia, ormai equipaggiate con pannelli sempre più sottili e risoluti, racchiusi in cornici ultra sottili. L’immagine rilasciata ci da comunque qualche spunto, la TV è posizionata in portrait, piuttosto insolito per il mercato consumer che è stato interamente dirottato negli ultimi anni sul formato 16:9, ma il particolare che forse interessa maggiormente è la trasparenza del pannello, che lascia intravedere limpidamente quello che sta dietro.
Prototipi di display semi trasparenti ne abbiamo visti moltissimi nell’ultimo anno, Samsung ha effettivamente mostrato particolare interesse in questo campo, con numerose soluzioni già portate lo scorso anno al CES 2012. Di certo assisteremo a qualcosa di più di un semplice prototipo la prossima settimana, non rimane che attendere e aspettare le prime indiscrezioni!
Samsung mostrerà al pubblico del CES 2013 i nuovi display flessibili da 5.5 pollici 720p
Con l’ultimo teaser ufficiale pubblicato alcuni giorni fa da Samsung, sembra che le principali novità che ci aspettano al CES 2013 da parte del produttore coreano riguardino proprio i nuovi display flessibili (oltre al mondo TV, Home e simili), d’altronde Samsung ha sempre utilizzato quest’evento per mettere in mostra le ultime tecnologie proprietarie da almeno due anni a questa parte. Per la prossima edizione le novità potrebbero riservare qualche sorpresa poichè non soltanto sarà effettuata l’ennesima dimostrazione per quanto riguarda i nuovi display flessibili da 5,5 pollici HD ma attraverso alcune postazioni demo il pubblico potrà interagire con essi, preparando così il 2013 a quella che potrebbe essere la prossima rivoluzione nel campo degli smartphone del produttore attesa commercialmente dal 2014.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 To Get Premium Suite With Android 4.1 Update (Video)
Samsung has already started rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy Note 10.1 in some countries, and now Samsung has announced that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will also come with a range of new features which include the Premium Suite.
The video below shows a range of the Premium Suite features that will be available on the Galaxy Note 10.1, which include improved Multi Windows functions, Samsung’s Air View and more.

Samsung svelerà il primo display da 4,99 pollici Full HD AMOLED al CES 2013?
Lo sviluppo e la produzione dei nuovi display full HD AMOLED è ormai avviata, nonostante alcune difficoltà tecniche incontrate nei mesi scorsi che hanno fatto per un attimo tentennare il produttore, il 2013 vedrà l’arrivo della nuova generazione di display. Secondo le ultime fonti, Samsung potrebbe svelare già dal prossimo Gennaio in occasione del CES 2013 un primo display da 4,99 pollici realizzato con tecnologia full HD AMOLED e dare quindi un primo assaggio di quello che potremo aspettarci sul prossimo Samsung Galaxy S4.
La densità di pixel sembra ormai confermata a circa 441 ppi, superando di fatto il nuovo display in-cell di iPhone 5 mentre per la produzione di massa, Samsung dichiara che le proprie fabbriche entreranno a regime già dal Q1 2013 per fronteggiare nei mesi successivi la forte richiesta. Full HD e smartphone sempre più potenti sarà la normalità del prossimo 2013 sperando di vedere innovazione e novità anche a livello software e di autonomia!
Samsung Releases Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Open Source Files For Multiple Devices
Samsung has released some new open source Android files for some of its devices, the files ate for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and they apply to a number of devices.
The devices included in the list include the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, neither of the two tablets have received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update as yet.
Samsung has also released the open source files for a number of their other devices, many of which have already received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, you can find out more details over at Samsung.

Samsung 2012 Smart TV Update Adds Amazon Instant Movie Streaming
Kindle range of devices within Europe, Amazon has also announced a partnership with Samsung which is now added a new Amazon Instant Video App to their range of 2012 Samsung Smart TVs.
The new Amazon Instant Video application enables Samsung Smart TV owners to access more than 140,000 movies and TV episodes which are available to either rent or purchase from the Amazon service.
Together with more than 30,000 titles on Prime Instant Video available to Prime members at no additional cost. The new Amazon Instant Video application is now available to download from today on to any 2012 Smart Samsung TV.
Amazon has completely redesigned the streaming application with a new user interface, which has now been designed specifically for use within a home living room, with features such as Watchlists, closed captions, and customised content recommendations.
“Streaming video content has emerged as the killer app for our Smart TV platform. In addition to our current line-up of big brands, Amazon Instant Video has been one of the most commonly requested services from our customers,” said Eric Anderson, Vice President of Content and Product Solutions, Samsung Electronics America. “We are very proud to say that today we deliver on that request – along with a brand new UI available for the first time on Samsung TVs.”

Hands-on with Google’s $249, ARM-based Chromebook (update: video)
Google really impressed us in San Francisco here today with its 11.6-inch ARM-based Samsung Chromebook. The $249 laptop is 0.8-inches (20mm) thin and weight only 2.43 pounds (1.1kg). It features a 11.6-inch 1366 x 768-pixel matte display, a full-size keyboard, a button-less trackpad and a 30Wh battery for 6.5+ hours of operation. Specs include a fanless dual-core A15-based Samsung Exynos 5 Dual (5250) SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in flash storage, WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth. There’s a full-size SD card reader and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack (with mic support) on the left, plus the power input, HDMI output, USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0 connector and SIM slot (currently unused) in back.
First impressions? This is a solid machine — build quality and materials are fantastic for the price. It’s also pleasantly thin and light, a boon for people who are used to carrying a laptop around every day. We’re happy with the display which is bright and crisp. Viewing angles could use some improvement, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better laptop screen at this price. The keyboard and trackpad feel great (we’re coming from an 11-inch Core i7 MacBook Air), and two-finger scrolling works like a charm. Performance is somewhere between the original Atom-based Chromebooks and the current Celeron-equipped Series-5 model. The system didn’t have any issues playing back 1080p content in YouTube, but we didn’t get a chance try Hulu or NetFlix.
Ultimately, this is a phenomenal device for the price. If you’re used to working in the cloud, you’re basically getting 80 percent of the entry-level MacBook Air experience for a quarter of the price. Factor in the Google Now integration and 100GB of free Google Drive storage for two years and this latest Chromebook is a winner. Check out the gallery below and hit the break for our hands-on video.
Google launches 11.6-inch ARM-based Samsung Chromebook: $249, ultrathin, 6.5-hour battery, 1080p video
Google just launched the latest iteration of its Chrome OS-based laptop here in San Francisco — the $249 (or £229, for those in the UK) 11.6-inch Samsung Chromebook. It’s ARM-based (fanless), 0.8-inches thick, weighs only 2.43 pounds, runs 6.5+ hours on battery, boots in under 10 seconds and supports 1080p video playback. Pre-orders start today at Amazon and PC World, and the laptop includes Google Now integration using Google Drive as a transport and comes with 100GB of free storage for two years. It will be available for sale on the Play Store and featured prominently at retailers like Best Buy, and naturally, we’re expecting this one to make a bigger splash than prior models based on the bargain bin price alone.
Under the hood, there’s a dual-core A15-based Samsung Exynos 5 Dual (5250) SoC, 2GB RAM, 16GB of built-in flash storage, WiFi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth, all of which should act to give this Chromebook a lot more oomph compared to slower, earlier models. Samsung annuncia il nuovo File System F2FS
Samsung ha annunciato di aver pronto un nuovo File System F2FS, ideato per migliorare le performance e l’affidabilità delle memorie Nand Flash, uno standard che ormai costituisce il futuro. Il File System F2FS, chiamato anche Flash-Friendly File-System, nasce da un progetto Open Source e da un’esigenza che per Samsung è molto importante, visto il ruolo di produttore ed utilizzatore di questa tipologia di memorie.
In particolare, il Flash-Friendly File-System è ideato per adattarsi alla geometria interna del dispositivo e alla gestione del supporto di archiviazione, migliorando la struttura di registro e ottimizzando l’allocazione nonchè gli algoritmi di pulizia. Insomma i dispositivi mobili di nuova generazione (soprattutto i Samsung), ma anche SSD e altre periferiche Flash, potranno sfruttare questa nuova idea di Samsung migliorando nettamente le performance.
Speculazioni | Samsung Nexus Tablet pronto per Dicembre con display da 10.1 pollici 2560×1600 (299ppi)
Secondo le ultime speculazioni diffuse da CNET, Google e Samsung si troverebbero già impegnate nella realizzazione di un tablet appartenente alla famiglia Nexus, quindi seguito e aggiornato dalla Google Experience ma prodotto dal gigante coreano. Gli utenti più attenti si ricorderanno bene che già prima dell’inizio dell’estate vi parlammo di questa remota possibilità, precisamente in questo articolo, che però a causa delle molteplici voci sul lancio del Nexus 7 e sull’imminente Google I/O fu accantonata.
A distanza quindi di diversi mesi se ne torna a parlare, stavolta con qualche dettaglio in più ed informazioni più precise. Il tablet vanterà una risoluzione di 2560×1600 con una densità di pixel per pollice pari a 299, addirittura superiore a quella del Nuovo iPad che arriva fino a 264 su una diagonale da 9,7 pollici e display retina (2048×1536).
Secondo Richard Shim analista di NPD Display Search, non soltanto questo tablet avrà alcune caratteristiche da top gamma ma il suo prezzo di mercato sarà addirittura inferiore a quello del Nexus 7. La sua commercializzazione dovrebbe avvenire entro il mese di Dicembre quindi in tempo per cavalcare il periodo natalizio e rinnovare nello stesso periodo la partnership tra Samsung e Google che vedeva proprio lo scorso anno l’arrivo del Galaxy Nexus.
Stavolta la direzione intrapresa dal gigante coreano sembra quella di proporre un prodotto concorrente con l’aiuto di Google per il mercato dei tablet, (oltre al presunto Galaxy Nexus 2 che potrebbe essere sviluppato da Samsung stessa), e se i rumor venissero confermati potremo avere un Exynos 5250 e una GPU Mali T-604 come piattaforma hardware.
Samsung nel 2013 con 3GB di RAM su device Android?
Un’immagine che da sola vale poco e che non offre certezze ma che è comunque in grado di lasciare libera l’immaginazione. Se in questa fine 2012 stiamo assistendo ad una commercializzazione di molti device Android con 2GB di memoria RAM e in grado di offrire prestazioni multitasking uniche e che trovano nel Galaxy Note 2 oggi la massima espressione, nel 2013 Samsung vuole superarsi.Secondo la foto l’azienda Coreana starebbe testando hardware Android con 3GB di memoria RAM a bordo, un quantitativo triplo rispetto al Galaxy S3. Se da un lato abbiamo notato come 2GB di RAM possono essere interessanti per alcune operazioni, ma non strettamente necessarie per la maggioranza degli utenti, aumentare a 3GB la RAM disponibile è forse quasi eccessivo. Certamente non si avrebbero problemi di applicazioni aperte o mancanza di memoria ma quello che è ipotizzabile, sempre prendendo per vere le info della foto, è che Samsung stia lavorando ad una personalizzazione ancora più pesante e in grado di sfruttare la RAM in modo ancora più massivo.
Non resta che attendere, sicuramente l’aumento di RAM è della potenza dei processori è la cosa più semplice da fare nella continua innovazione. Il difficile è creare software, interfacce, prodotti e idee originali in grado di sfondare nel mercato.

Per tutti coloro che possiedono uno smartphone Samsung, è disponibile da poche ore una nuova versione della PC Suite Kies, il software ufficiale attraverso il quale è possibile interfacciare i vari smartphone coreani con il nostro PC o Mac. La nuova versione offre un’interfaccia leggermente ridisegnata, migliore gestione dei dispositivi collegati e una velocità di apertura maggiore. Samsung expects around $7.28 billion in operating profits for Q3, setting another record
Samsung has provided investors guidance ahead of its full Q3 earnings report that’s due before October 26th, and as has been the custom, the numbers are huge. It’s expecting a fourth straight record quarter with overall operating profit of 8.1 trillion won ($7.28 billion), an amount that would more than double last year’s results for the same period and clear Q2s $5.86 billion, all on sales of 52 trillion won ($46 billion). We’ll have to wait for the full report to see numbers broken down by department, but it’s safe to say that there’s a lot of Galaxy S IIIs (it ticked past 20 million last month) adding up to reach that pinnacle. Reuters and Bloomberg have predictions from various analysts on how many handsets, RAM chips and flat-panel HDTVs were sold, but if its legal battle with Apple ends in the worst-case scenario, at least we figure Samsung will have enough left over to keep the lights on.
Samsung To Announce Galaxy S III Mini Next Week (Rumor)
Samsung has sent out press invites to a special event which will take place in Frankfurt next week on the 11th of October, the event will be held in Samsung’s mobile store.
According to the guys over at Sammobile, Samsung will be introducing a new version of the Galaxy S III and the device is reported to feature a smaller 4 inch touchscreen display and will apparently be called the Galaxy S III Mini.
Other rumored specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini include a 5 megapixel camera, and a dual core processor, the device is said to be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Galaxy S3 64GB in Italia in versione Sapphire Black?
In attesa di conferme ufficiale da parte del produttore, tramite un noto store ci arriva un’informazione molto interessante per una variante di Galaxy S3 attesa da tanti utenti. Sarebbe infatti apparso un codice prodotto che rimanderebbe alla versione Sapphire Black del Galaxy S3, colorazione già annunciata e sicuramente molto attesa. La particolarità però è che accanto al codice prodotto troviamo l’indicazione 64 che, senza troppa fantasia, dovrebbe indicare proprio il taglio di memoria interna da ben 64GB. Purtroppo la presenza nel “listino interno” non offre informazioni sulla data di arrivo e sul prezzo di vendita. Quello che sembra comunque chiaro è che Samsung sia in procinto di commercializzare in Italia la versione 64GB del Galaxy S3 in colorazione Nera. Sperando che il prezzo possa essere comunque interessante (immaginiamo che sarà comunque costoso visto che i competitor chiedono 950€) non resta che attendere maggiori info, magari ufficiali.
Samsung To Launch Android Galaxy Music Phone
It looks like Samsung is working on a new smartphone, the device is rumored to be called the Samsung Galaxy Music Phone, and will come with Google’s Android OS.
The Samsung Music Phone is rumored to be a mid range smartphone, and it will come with Android 4.0 ICS but will get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update shortly after release.
The device will apparently be available in single and dual SIM versions and will come with a 850MHz processo, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot.
The Samsung Music Phone is also reported to feature a dedicated music key, a pair of front facing speakers, an FM radio with a built in FM antenna, and it will also apparently use Samsung’s Music Hub service, there are no details as yet on when it will be available or how much it will retail for.

Samsung SSD 840 Pro caters to speed seekers with faster random access
It’s difficult to thrive in the solid-state drive world. Unless you’ve got just the right controller and flash memory, most performance-minded PC users will rarely give you a second glance. Samsung muscled its way into that narrow view with the SSD 830 last year; it intends to lock our attention with the new SSD 840 and SSD 840 Pro. The Pro’s 520MB/s and 450MB/s sequential read and write speeds are only modest bumps over the 830, but they don’t tell the whole story of just how fast it gets. The upgraded MDX controller boosts the random read access to a nicely rounded 100,000IOPS, and random writes have more than doubled to 78,000IOPS or 90,000IOPS, depending on who you ask and what drive you use. The improved performance in either direction is a useful boost to on-the-ground performance, as both AnandTech and Storage Review will tell you. We’re waiting on details of the ordinary triple level cell-based 840 model beyond its 120GB, 250GB and 500GB capacities, although there won’t be an enormous premium for the multi-level cell 840 Pro over existing drives when it arrives in mid-October — the flagship line should start at $100 for a basic 64GB drive, and peak at $600 for the ultimate 512GB version.
Samsung Galaxy S III for MetroPCS hands-on (video)
Considering the recent glut of smartphone announcements, news of yet another Galaxy S III variant shouldn’t have you tittering with glee. But for those of you tied to MetroPCS and hankering for a beastly mobile option, that 4.8-inch handset is almost ready to ship. Shown off at the carrier’s booth here at Pepcom, the designed by nature device is virtually unchanged, save for branding on the back that nods to the 4G network it runs on. Otherwise, it’s the same TouchWizzed Android ICS experience we’ve come to know and love. There’s no official word on pricing or a concrete release date — outside of a very vague end of Q4 bow.
