Conversano – Castello Aragonese

Facebook App Center goes globetrotting with 7 new countries, blankets all of the English-speaking world

Facebook’s App Center is having its passport stamped quite a lot lately. Just days after the HTML5 app portal set foot in the UK, it’s making the leap to seven more countries. Brazil, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey will all get a crack at using web apps both on the desktop as well as in the Android and iOS native clients. The new group is coming onboard in the next few weeks. In the meantime, countries where English makes a frequent appearance — Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the US — now supply the App Center for every single user. To help speed along the virtual customs claims, Facebook is trotting out a translation tool to get developers on the right track. It shouldn’t be long before App Center is a mainstay of the entire Facebook world, even though we may end up cursing the company after hour three of a Jetpack Joyride marathon.

Costa Concordia wreck caught in HD photos underwater

Last week it was announced and subsequently blasted across the earth that a gigantic cruise ship by the name of Costa Concordia was wrecked off the coast of Isola del Giglio, Italy, missing persons and deaths included – this week explorers are moving through the wreck with a fine toothed comb. What you’re going to see are photographs in high definition presented by rescuers who hope to not only get clues as to how the ship was run amid disastrous consequences, but as to where the missing passengers have ended up. There are currently 21 passengers missing at this time of the more than 4,200 that were aboard at the time of the crash.
Italian anti-trust body fines Apple for misleading customers on product guarantees
Apple Italia has been fined a total of 900,000 euros for failing to inform its customers that products purchased were already covered by two years of free assistance under national law. It appears that Apple employees encouraged the extra purchase of its own AppleCare plans. With the European court’s continued investigation of possible e-book price-fixing and ongoing legal jousting with Samsung unlikely to end any time soon, it looks like Apple will be busy in the courts next year too.

Nokia's online stores go offline in France and Spain

Nokia’s “around breakeven” outlook announced earlier today is discouraging at best, and now it looks like the company has begun shuttering online stores in response to growing competition from resellers, which offer lower prices on the same hardware. So far, online stores in France and Spain have been replaced with a closure notice, so customers in those countries will need to turn to third-party vendors to get their smartphone fix. European online stores in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, and the UK remain open for business, but low online sales figures (and the inevitable death of Symbian) mean we may see more countries falling offline in the near future. “Prices are too subsidized by the carriers and sales were low, so they will keep providing support,” a representative from Nokia Spain told us today, so as expected, the shutdown only affects sales operations — of course, you’ll still be able to turn to your local Nokia site for support.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.3.3 Gingerbread update begins international rollout

Look, we know all this Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich talk can get you down original Galaxy Tab owners. Unfortunately, that’s the risk of being an early adopter. Now chin up, Samsung has just started dribbling out the Gingerbread 2.3.3 update to Italian Tab owners. The update, when it arrives in your location, will be available in Kies as firmware/baseband version P1000XXJQ1/P1000XXJPZ. Those less patient can always jump into the forums of course, and take their chances with a manual download and install. We won’t tell.
