One In Six PCs Shipped In Q4 2012 Was An Apple iPad

Apple has had massive success with their iPad, and according to a recent report by research firm Canalys, in the final quarter of 2012, one in six PCs shipped was an Apple iPad, and tablets made up a third of all PC shipments for the same quarter.

Apple’s growth in the pad segment was driven by strong demand for the iPad mini. Its overall shipments, however, were hampered by supply issues. Canalys estimates that the mini made up over half of Apple’s total pad shipments, with its attractive price point and compact design leading to significant cannibalization in the iPad range and wider PC market. Despite record shipments, Q4 saw Apple’s pad share dip to 49%, becoming the first quarter it has not controlled over half the market. ‘Apple timed the launch of the iPad mini well,’ said Pin-Chen Tang, Canalys Research Analyst. ‘Its success proves there is a clear demand for pads with smaller screens at a more affordable price. Without the launch, Apple would surely have lost more ground to its competitors.’

You can see more information on the report over at Canalys, it is impressive to think that out of all computers shipped in the fourth quarter of 2012 one in six was an iPad and one third was a tablet.

iPad Mini 2 To Feature 324ppi Retina Display (Rumor)

Apple launched their first iPad Mini last year, it comes with the same resolution display as the iPad 2, which is 1024 by 768 pixels, we have been hearing rumors that Apple will release the iPad Mini 2 this year with a Retina Display.

According to a recent report the iPad Mini will feature a Retina Display with 324ppi (pixels per inch) and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, which is the same resolution as Apple’s current iPad 4, only it will be in the smaller 7.9 inch display of the iPad Mini.

It will be interesting to see if the new iPad Mini 2 does come with the Retina Display, it certainly would look impressive in the iPad Mini’s smaller 7.9 inch form factor, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.

WordPress per iOS si aggiorna alla versione 3.4 ed introduce alcune novità

Da poche ore è disponibile su App Store un nuovo importante aggiornamento per WordPress, l’app ufficiale della famosa piattaforma di blogging che, così, raggiunge la versione 4.3. L’update si concentra quasi esclusivamente sulle notifiche push.

Le notifiche, già da tempo presenti in WordPress per iOS, fino ad ora servivano esclusivamente per avvisare l’arrivo di un nuovo commento. Con l’ultimo aggiornamento, il servizio di notifiche è stato ampliato con l’aggiunta di nuove funzionalità.

Lancio iPad da 128 GB: tattica per tagliar fuori la concorrenza?

Come tutti voi ormai già saprete, Apple ha lanciato a sorpresa, in questi giorni, una nuova versione di iPad di quarta generazione, con capacità di storage da 128 GB, ampliando ancora una volta il numero di dispositivi tra cui gli utenti possono scegliere in base alle proprie esigenze. Secondo alcuni esperti di marketing, però, la mossa di Apple è dettata da una strategia che punta a rendere ancor più complicata la vita alla concorrenza.

Il lancio di un nuovo modello di iPad con capacità di storage aumentata è significativo per diversi aspetti. Il primo, che seppur possa sembrare banale è invece molto rilevante, è che Apple pare sia riuscita finalmente a rafforzare la segretezza sul lancio dei propri nuovi prodotti, come promesso da Cook la scorsa estate. Il secondo invece, è rappresentato dall’annuncio a sorpresa, dimostrazione di quanto Apple possa rapidamente (e senza possibilità di predizione) cambiare direzione.

Fin dal lancio dell’iPad mini lo scorso autunno, infatti, alcune critiche erano piovute sul colosso di Cupertino, reo secondo alcuni esperti di aver proposto un prodotto con un display non sufficientemente di qualità da poter attrarre i clienti e colpevole inoltre, di poter perdere gli ampi margini di guadagno fino ad allora ottenuti a causa della fascia relativamente bassa di prezzo nella quale rientrava il dispositivo.

Griffin launches PowerDock 5 charging platform and ChargeSensor adapters

Many of us have multiple devices, maybe an iPad for every room and a couple of iPhones. So Griffin has produced the PowerDock 5, a USB-device that can charge up to five iPads simultaneously. Charging your variety of devices just got easier.
It’s priced at $100 and will be available in Spring. In other Griffin news, the company is putting out a new PowerBlock plug adapter and PowerJolt car charger with Griffin’s ChargeSensor technology. It identifies the power needs of your device and gives out energy appropriately.

Both will be available in the spring. The PowerBlock will cost $30 and the PowerJolt will cost $25.

Grosse novità per tutti utenti di Facebook Messenger su iOS. Il programma, aggiornato nelle scorse ore alla nuova versione 2.2.1, consente ora di registrare e inviare messaggi vocali e, al momento solo in Canada, di effettuare vere e proprie chiamate VOIP gratuite.

Facebook ha scelto di servirsi di tale nazione come banco di prova per testare il funzionamento su larga scala di tale nuova funzionalità, al momento esclusiva della versione per device iOS.

Tumblr iPad App Finally Launches

If you have been patiently waiting for Tumblr to launch an iPad version of its application, you will be pleased to learn that today the company has finally launched it.

Tumblr has today rolled out a new updated to its iOS application which brings with it support for Apple’s iPad and iPad mini devices, which has been coded in native iOS rather than relying on HTML.

This native iOS coding is the reason why the Tumblr iPad application has taken so long to roll out says Tumblr. The new iPad app allows you to discover and view image on larger iOS screens and includes a handy navigation bar situated on the lefthand side of the screen.

Cubasis di Steinberg arriva anche su iPad per creare musica (video)

Il software di Steinberg è famoso in ambito professionale con la versione Cubase  nato inizialmente su computer Atari per poi essere portato e storicamente utilizzato soprattutto in ambiente windows.  Cubasis arriva su iPad e si differenzia dal fratello maggiore per essere una vera e propria versione lite pur mantenendo la maggior parte delle funzioni. Si tratta di un sequencer audio-midi in grado di registrare in sessioni multi-tracccia allo scopo di creare musica.

Cubasis su iPad segue in parte la filosofdia della controparte PC, offrendo un’interfaccia semplificata e intuitiva, migliorata per l’utilizzo touch. I progetti creati su iPad potranno comunque  essere esportati in Cubase 7/6.5, Cubase Artist 7/6.5, Cubase LE AI Elements 6 o superiori.

Skype per iPad si aggiorna con l’integrazione di Messenger, Hotmail e Outlook.com

Skype è un servizio che non ha bisogno di presentazioni, in quanto è noto per le sue caratteristiche tali da permettere conversazioni, chiamate e videochiamate online in modo del tutto gratuito verso altri utenti Skype. Grazie all’applicazione disponibile su App Store per iPad avremo la possibilità di sfruttare tutte le principali funzionalità del servizio anche in mobilità attraverso una connessione ad Internet, sia Wi-Fi che 3G. Potremo consultare la lista completa dei nostri contatti, avviare una chat, chiamare ed inviare SMS eventualmente tramite le tariffe offerte da Skype. Naturalmente le chiamate effettuate verso i nostri contatti Skype tramite il servizio saranno gratuite, nonostante sia importante precisare come sia necessaria la presenza di un piano dati con il proprio operatore se in 3G.

L’applicazione è stata da poco aggiornata alla versione 4.2 con importanti novità che riguardano soprattutto l’integrazione con Messenger, il noto servizio di messaggistica targato Microsoft, ma non solo: è stato anche introdotto il supporto ad Hotmail, e Outlook.com! In arrivo su App Store Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour

Dopo un paio di mesi passati dall’annuncio dell’uscita di Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, il 4° capirtolo della saga di Modern Combat, finalmente sappiamo qualcosa di più questo titolo, come la trama e i vari contenuti.

La storia comincia poco dopo gli avvenimenti di Modern Combat 3. Gli Stati Uniti sono appena stati vittima di un devastante attacco nucleare che ha sconvolto l’equilbrio di tutto il mondo. Rinascendo dalle ceneri, Seattle è stata ricostruita e si sta celebrando la sua nuova apertura. Ora, molti leader mondiali si riuniscono alle Hawaii per il cruciale Vertice Internazionale per la Pace e la Sicurezza, che potrebbe rivelarsi l’ultima possibilità del mondo di evitare la catastrofe globale. Ma non appena il Vertice ha inizio, una massiccia esplosione distrugge ancora una volta metà della città di Seattle. Tra il caos e la confusione che seguono l’attacco, un gruppo terroristico capitanato da un giovane e carismatico leader, Edward Page, prende in ostaggio il gruppo di leader mondiali. Impersonificando Joel Blake dell’esercito degli Stati Uniti, sarà nostro compito e del nostro team inseguire il nemico attraversando il globo, dal Nord America al Sudafrica, e sabotare i loro piani salvando i politici  ed eliminando l’uomo che ha organizzato il tutto. Orange Launches Libon VoIP App For iOS

Mobile carrier Orange has launched an new iOS app called Libon, which is a mobile app that lets you make free HD quality VoIP calls and send SMS instant messaging messages.

Orange today launched Libon, a free iOS communication app available in 90 countries. Libon enables users to make free High Definition voice calls, send text messages and create personalized voicemails all from one simple-to-use app. Libon works on any network. Libon will be available on Android in early Q1.

Libon is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store, and you do not need to be an Orange subscriber to use the app it will work on any of the mobile carriers.

Facebook Testing Automatic Photo Synchronisation On iOS Devices

Facebook has this week started testing a new service which allows iOS device owners to automatically sync photographs from their devices. Enabling you to easily then share your synced photos on your timeline from your desktop or mobile device.

Once you have enabled photo syncing on your iOS device, your mobile photos will be saved to a private section within your Facebook Photos, from where you can decide on how you would like to share them with others, via either post or private message.

Once your Facebook photographs have automatically synchronised, only you can see the photos which have been uploaded from your phone to your Facebook account. Facebook explains a little more about their new service:

“We generally try to sync your photos as soon as you take them. However, we also take into account a number of factors, such as your battery level and sync settings. New photos that you take will be privately synced as you take them. In your syncing settings, you can choose to sync over Wi-Fi and your cellular network, sync or over Wi-Fi only, or turn syncing off entirely. You can also choose to sync all photos in your camera roll over wifi and see how much storage space you have available.”

C’è voluto del tempo, ma finalmente due degli aeroporti più utilizzati d’Italia sono accessibili anche da iPhone e iPad grazie ad un’applicazione dedicata. Gli aeroporti in questione sono quelli di Milano Linate e Milano Malpensa, per ciascuno dei quali è possibile scaricare un’app interamente gratuita.

Una volta lanciate, i due programmi, sostanzialmente identici, consentono ai passeggeri di accedere a tutta una vasta serie di informazioni utili con cui organizzare il proprio viaggio e trascorrere l’attesa in aeroporto.
