Photographers looking for more control whilst using their DSLR camera to capture time-lapse photography or with motion control. Might be interested in the new concept called the Genie, which is currently on the crowd sourcing website Kickstarter, looking to make the jump from concept to production.
Genie has been designed and created by Chris Thomson & Ben Ryan, and provides numerous different way to remotely control your camera for extra photographic creativity.
The Genie can be setup to record either panning or linear time lapses, and can be programmed to move and shoot in a panning direction at a speed controlled by you.
“One of the coolest things about the Genie is that it is able to integrate with all of your existing equipment – whether you have a professional slider or your homemade DIY track, simply screw the Genie on and attach the rope to either end using the supplied accessory. Since the Genie uses standard rope in linear mode, the only limit to the length of your camera move is how long your length of rope is”
The Genie is currently over on the Kickstarter website looking to raise enough pledges to make the jump from concept to production. So if you think it is something you could benefit from, jump over to the Kickstarter website now to make a pledge and help the Genie become a reality.
Dolphin have been busy developing their new Dolphin Engine, which they have revealed this week and is used to power their excellent Dolphin Beta mobile browser app. Which Dolphin now says is the fastest HTML5 mobile browser currently available, and to prove their point Dolphin have completed and records a few tests.
The latest Dolphin Engine allows HTML5 rendering up to 5-10 times faster than the default browser on Android, and at times, 100 percent faster than Google’s Chrome mobile browser. The sped has been improved thanks to significant GPU technology ehancements around GPU accelerated canvas rendering and optimised CPU/GPU parallel computing. Watch the video below to see the new Dolphin Engine in action.
“Dolphin Browser, the most popular third-party browser on Android and iOS and the only Gesture and Voice enabled browser, today announced the launch of Dolphin Engine, behind-the-scenes technology that makes Dolphin Browser Beta the highest performing HTML5 browser available today. “
** Dolphin Engine was tested on Github’s HTML5test.com. HTML5test.com is an industry standard tool for testing a browser’s support of HTML5 functionality, respectively.
Think you’re good with Photoshop? Graphic designer Alexander Koshelkov created this amazing time-lapse video showing how he created an epic plane crash image in Photoshop using elements found in other photographs (e.g. freeways, an airplane, destroyed engines and cars). The project took Koshelkov nearly 4.5 hours and required 244 separate layers.
Here’s the final image (you can download it as a wallpaper here):

Apple has today released a new Thunderbolt software 1.2.1 update following on from the previous Thunderbolt software 1.2 update which was released last week and caused a few problems for users.
You will be pleased to know that the latest Thunderbolt update 1.2.1 has rolled out much more smoothly than its predecessor, causing no problems for Mac users once installed.
The latest Apple Thunderbolt update 1.2.1 is only 520 KB in size and requirements you to have OS X Lion 10.7.4 installed on your Apple Mac system. The new update brings with it support for Apple’s Thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter.
The new update can automatically be downloaded on your Mac system via the Software Update section. Interestingly the new Thunderbolt update 1.2.1 currently doesn’t support the new Retina MacBook Pro.
The new Darksiders II action adventure game which is currently under development, and is hopefully being launched by THQ in August 2012 on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.
Has this week received a new teaser video called the Last Sermon. If enough Facebook users like the page and the site receives over 500k likes then the next stage off the trailer will be released.
Unfortunately it was recently confirmed by THQ that the new sequel Darksiders II will not have multiplayer support, due to technical problems, and because each horseman had not been developed individually.
“Darksiders II starts at nearly the same time as the start of the first Darksiders. After War is convicted and sent back to Earth by the Charred Council, they inform the other three Horseman of his fate. The Horseman Death, knowing that his brother War is the most honorable and incorruptible of the four, and would never have started the Apocalypse early, flies into a rage. Believing his brother is victim of a conspiracy, Death defies the Council’s orders and sets out on a personal mission to find proof of his brother’s innocence. Death travels to the Nether Realms, a place between Heaven and Hell, to call in favors from powerful beings that rule the realm.”
I have also dropped the additional trailer that was released earlier this year underneath to whet your appetite a little more.
